At the age of 85, Erwin Nöthen, who designed the prize coin for the “Benedict Prize of Mönchengladbach” for the respective prize winners, passed away on 11 August 2022. Erwin Nöthen was a freelance sculptor and medallist who lived in Düsseldorf. Many of his works of art, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, are represented in public and private art collections. Erwin Nöthen was chosen in the 1980s by Dr. Busso Diekamp, the then chairman of the Heimat- und Bürgerein for the former Benedikt Prize and the medal donated for the award since then.
